Bespoke Timepieces and Dashboard Mounting System Developed in Tandem with Coach-Built Car
Since the beginning of motorized vehicles, time and the automobile have been inextricably linked. Timepieces have always had a place in the world of the automobile, either to measure speed over distance or to ensure that the owner always had the correct time.
But watches and cars have never been as linked as they are now. Today, for the first time ever, two tourbillon timepieces from BOVET 1822 have been engineered, designed, and developed in parallel with the production of a coachbuilt Rolls-Royce. Using the revolutionary and patented Amadeo system, these timepieces can transform from a wristwatch to a pocket/pendant watch to a desk clock and… that’s right, a dashboard clock.
Born in the mind and heart of a Rolls-Royce and BOVET 1822 collector, the concept was to design and produce a bespoke Rolls-Royce and two unique BOVET 1822 timepieces, one for himself and one for his wife, that go hand in glove. Three years in development, BOVET 1822 and Rolls-Royce accomplished something never realized before in either industry.

BOVET 1822 AND ROLLS-ROYCE A TRUE COLLABORATION

Timeless Passion – A True Collaboration with Bovet 1822

In a visionary move showcasing contemporary patronage, two luxury houses—Bovet 1822 and Rolls-Royce—have united to create ground-breaking timepieces. Esteemed collectors of both brands, the clients sought to innovate in horology, leading to a collaboration between Bovet’s world-class craftspeople and Rolls-Royce’s master artisans. Together, they reimagined the iconic Rolls-Royce dashboard clock, resulting in two exquisite reversible timepieces. These versatile pieces can be worn on the wrist, used as table clocks, pendants, or pocket watches, or placed in the Boat Tail’s fascia as the car’s clock. This collaboration marks an unprecedented achievement in both industries.

The Mounting Mechanism

BOVET designed a unique holder mechanism for Rolls-Royce’s Boat Tail car, starting from scratch as no similar product existed. They adapted their patented Amadeo convertible system, introduced in 2010. The simultaneous design of the timepieces, holder, and car required precise coordination. Rolls-Royce mandated that the system be installed exactly when the car’s interior was completed to avoid reopening the dashboard. The mechanism needed to be free from vibrations, noise, and had to be user-friendly and secure.

BOVET aimed for a purely mechanical solution, adhering to their Swiss Handcrafted production values. They innovatively placed all mechanical parts outside the dashboard, contrasting with typical fixed systems. A special leather drawer, matching the car’s seats, was created to store the timepieces and accessories, fitting neatly into the dashboard. When the timepiece isn’t in the holder, a laser-engraved display plaque maintains the dashboard’s aesthetic.
